Sensors and Transducers, 3rd Edition
The purpose of this book is to explain and illustrate the use of sensor and transducers associated with electronics circuits. The steady spread of electronic circuits into all aspects of life, but particularly into all aspects of control technology, has greatly increased the importance of sensors which can detect, as electrical signals, changes in various physical quantities. In addition, the conversion by transducers of physical quantities into electronics signal and vice versa has become an important part of electronics.

Surviving the SOC Revolution - A Guide to Platform-Based Design
This new market includes small, mobile, and ergonomic devices that provide information, entertainment, and communications capabilities to consumer electronics, industrial automation, retail automation, and medical markets. These devices require complex electronic design and system integration, delivered in the short time frames of consumer electronics. The system design challenge of the next decades is the dramatic expansion of this spectrum of diversity. Small, low-power, embedded devices will accelerate as microelectronic mechanical system (MEMS) technology becomes available. Microscopic devices, powered by ambient energy in their environment, will be able to sense numerous fields, position, velocity, and acceleration, and communicate with substantial bandwidth in the near area. Larger, more powerful systems within the infrastructure will be driven by the continued improvements in storage density, memory density, processing capability, and system-area interconnects as single board systems are eclipsed by
complete systems on a chip. The overall goal of electronic embedded system design is to balance production costs with development time and cost in view of performance and functionality considerations.

Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers
Optical technology is the dominant carrier of global information. It is also central to the realisation of future networks that will have the capabilities demanded by society. These capabilities include virtually unlimited bandwidth to carry communication services of almost any kind, and full transparency that allows terminal upgrades in capacity and flexible routing of channels. Many of the advances in optical networks have been made possible by the advent of the optical amplifier.
In general, optical amplifiers can be divided into two classes: optical fibre amplifiers and semiconductor amplifiers. The former has tended to dominate conventional system applications such as in-line amplification used to compensate for fibre losses. However, due to advances in optical semiconductor fabrication techniques and device design, especially over the last five years, the semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is showing great promise for use in evolving optical communication networks. It can be utilised as a general gain unit but also has many functional applications including an optical switch, modulator and wavelength converter. These functions, where there is no conversion of optical signals into the electrical domain, are required in transparent optical networks.
