Quasi-Orthogonal Space-Time Block Code
This monograph focuses on the design and analysis of full-diversity QO-STBC with very low decoding complexity and high code rate. Much of the monograph is dedicated to double-symbol-decodable QO-STBC and single-symbol-decodable QO-STBC, which have the two lowest levels of decoding complexity among all QO-STBC. Apart from coherent code detection, differential space-time modulation designs for the non-coherent (blind) detection of double- and single-symboldecodable QO-STBC are also presented. The latter part of this monograph shifts the design focus away from minimum decoding complexity to constant full rate (ix. code rate = 1) for arbitrary number of transmit antennas, and finally to code rate > 1.

Radio Antennas and Propagation: Radio Engineering Fundamentals
Times change, however. Modern electrical engineering students must pick their way through some quantum mechanics to understand semiconductor devices; it is no longer an optional extra. But to use quantum explanations about transistors and microcircuits yet ignore them when it comes to radio destroys the natural unity of our subject, fails to make important connections and seems arbitrary. Besides, 'difficult' ideas grow easier with use and a quantum orientation to radio no longer makes the subject less accessible to modern students. On the contrary, sometimes quantum notions give an easier insight than the old classical approach. The 'feel' is so much less abstract, so much more real-world oriented. Anyway, I cannot help believing that we ought to teach our students the best we know, particularly since we have no idea what will be important to them in the future. So, start to finish, this book takes an approachable but persistently quantum-oriented stance, and in my mind that is what justified writing it. My hope is that it will encourage those who have long wanted to teach the subject in a more modern way.

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning 3rd Edition
This book aims to introduce students and professionals in other disciplines to the fundamentals of the subject, without involving the reader too deeply in theory. The subject matter is laid out in logical order and covers the main uses and types of equipment. In the ten years since the last edition there have been major changes in the choice of refrigerants due to environmental factors and an additional chapter is introduced to reflect this. This issue is on-going and new developments will appear over the next ten years. This issue has also affected servicing and maintenance of refrigeration equipment and there is an increased pressure to improve efficiency in the reduction of energy use. This edition reflects these issues, whilst maintaining links with the past for users of existing plant and systems. There have also been changes in packaged air-conditioning equipment and this has been introduced to the relevant sections. The book gives worked examples of many practical applications and shows options that
are available for the solution of problems in mechanical cooling systems. It is not possible for these pages to contain enough information to design a complete refrigeration system.
