The programmable (logic) controller (PLC) is an electronic device for machine or process control. The PLC receives signals via inputs, processes them according to the instructions of a program, and transfers signals to the outputs. In the simplest case, the motor is switched with an electromechanical contactor. Combinations consisting of motor protection and line protection are termed motor starter. Motor-protective circuit-breakers are circuit-breakers used for switching, protection and isolation of circuits primarily associated with motor loads. Switch-disconnectors without tripping units are available in the same sizes as the circuit-breakers and can be fitted with additional shunt or undervoltage releases to suit on the versions concerned.

Op Amps for Everyone
Op amps can’t exist without feedback, and feedback has inherent stability problems, so feedback and stability are covered in Chapter 5. Of course, this causes redundancy that some people might find boring, but it’s worth the price to enable the satisfaction of a diversified audience.The emphasis on single power supply systems forces the designer to bias circuits when the inputs are referenced to ground, and Chapter 4 gives a detailed procedure that quickly yields a working solution every time.

Battery Operated Devices and Systems
From Portable Electronics to Industrial Products This book aims at bridging this gap, as many applications are reported in detail and others are mentioned, whereas less emphasis is put on batteries. However, basic characteristics of batteries and information on the latest developments are enclosed in a dedicated chapter. As is obvious, a 400-page single-author book cannot be as exhaustive as a multi-author large handbook. Nevertheless, the reader may find here, in addition to data on many applications, links to further literature through themany references that have been included. For researchers, teachers and graduate students interested in devices and systems drawing power from batteries, this book will be a useful information source. There are no books dealing with the large spectrum of applications powered by batteries. In other words, although some books cover specific topics, for example portable devices, electric vehicles, energy storage, no books that aim to summarize all battery applications have thus far been published.
